All territory located south of the Colorado River is considered part of Patagonia Argentina. This is such an enormous territory, more than twice the size of France, that it can't be represented solely on the basis of a single configuration.

There are 7 different types of Patagonian landscape :

- Patagonian Big River Valleys: located between the Rio Negro and the Rio Bravo they include all of the province of Rio Negro, part of Buenos Aires and La Pampa. It's a structured zone with varied climates ranging from fertile plains to steppes.

- Patagonian Lake Region: located in the Cordillera and their continuation, specifically referring to the big lakes as well as all the running water famous for salmonid fishing (Nahuel, Ramos Hegida, Futalaufguen, La Plata among others).
It continues into Chile as part of Chilean Patagonia.

- Patagonian Beaches: there are tourist beaches between the Colorado and the Chubut River which are famous for their magical-sounding fauna: whales, orcas, penguins, sea wolves and cormorants...

- Central Patagonia: defined by the Gulf of Saint Georges and its projection into the Cordillera Andes, mainly used for raising sheep and exploiting petroleum resources. Its capital is Comodoro Rivadavia.

- Patagonian Steppes: located between the Rio Deseado and Rio Santa Cruz, they are identical to inner Patagonia but the climate is much harsher and colder.

- Southern Patagonia: located south of the region of Santa Cruz and the XIIth Chilean region. It includes the Strait of Magellan, the eternal snows, the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia's Land of Fire.

- Patagonia's Meseta de Somuncura (Somuncura Plateau): the most representative of wild Patagonia. It is a protected area classified as a world biosphere which has remained unpolluted and has a variety of geological formations, cave paintings and carvings. Its flora and fauna are exceptional and unique. With an altitude between 1,750 and 1,900 meters it’s the favorite place for Patagons and Araucans and is a hunting ground (guanaco, ostriches, Patagonian hares and Patagonian chincillas)..
